2021 Ford Expedition in Warsaw, MO
As one of the best large SUVs on the market, the 2021 Ford Expedition holds its own against other vehicles in its class thanks to a powerful engine, as well as ample space for passengers and cargo. Despite its impressive size, the Expedition handles well whether you're driving around town or along the highway. Use this guide to learn why the 2021 Expedition receives high marks.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
For the 2021 model year, Ford introduces a two-row base trim called the XL STX. Previously this SUV was only available as a three-row SUV. The SUV now has five trims available: XL STX, XLT, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum. It comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, but the upper trims boast 22-inch ones.
Engine (Power)
The standard engine found on the 2021 Expedition gives you ample power. This 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engine makes 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque in every trim except the Platinum. In that trim, the engine's output is boosted to 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. It's paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
Despite its massive size, the 2021 Expedition achieves decent gas mileage numbers especially compared to other competitions that operate with V-8 engines. The rear-wheel-drive models get 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. Opting for four-wheel drive dips the numbers slightly to 17 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway for the standard-wheelbase model, and 16 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway for the Expedition Max. Also, when properly equipped, the Expedition can tow a maximum of 9,300 pounds.
Interior
The base trim has two rows of seats for five people, while every other trim has three rows for up to eight people. If you opt for second-row captain's chairs, this number decreases to seven. No matter where you sit or what configuration you have, the Expedition offers plenty of headroom and legroom.
The Expedition's cargo area depends upon its body style. Depending upon how you position the seats, the standard-wheelbase Expedition has between 19.3 and 20.9 cubic feet behind the third row, and this expands to 57.5 to 63.6 cubic feet behind the second row. You gain up to 104.6 cubic feet behind the front row. With the extended-wheelbase version, it gets 36 cubic feet behind the third row and 79.6 cubic feet behind the second. This number increases to 121.5 cubic feet behind the front row.
Its straightforward SYNC 3 infotainment system is very user-friendly, and its eight-inch touch-screen display is responsive. The SUV also comes standard with four USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. If you want more features, available upgrades include wireless device charging, navigation, HD or satellite radio, additional USB ports, and a rear-seat entertainment system with two screens.
